My Transhuman is a fascinating poetic evocation on the evolution of today's Technology, its impact on the human being and our human society. Will men become eternal ? The film is divided in 8 sections, 8 lessons of deep-content interviews, that are intercut with illustrative and relaxing music clips. This film was made because much sooner than we think, today's mankind will simply no longer exist. And we think it's about time that we start thinking about that. THOU SHALL BE FROZEN John Rodriguez is president of Transtime Inc., a company with activities in cryonics. "I just don't understand why people won't be frozen." THOU SHALL SPIRITUALIZE "Burning Man" by JMX MUSIC ON IMAGES OF THE BURNING MAN FESTIVAL Margareth Wertheim is an author who searches in her work for relationships between science and religion. I think it is insane to try to say that we can have a purely physical or purely materialist world picture. THOU SHALL AUTOMATE "Robots" by JMX MUSIC ON ROBOTS AND HUMANS : HE'S A ROBOT NOT A MAN Joseph Rosen is a surgeon and advocate of machine-enhanced human senses. He speculates about the advantages of becoming cyborgs. Partly humans are very good at certain things, and humans as a design is a wonderful design. But humans as a design have some faults, one fault is we were not designed for the modern age. THOU SHALL TRANSCEND NEGATIVITY "Industrial" by JMX MUSIC ON INDUSTRIALISATION AND THE WORLD ENDS TOMORROW David Pearce is an author. On the purely technical angle, yes we can biologically implement paradise, whether we should do so or not is obviously a matter for ideological debate, but bioscience does allow us to do that, the technology will shortly exist for us to get rid of suffering altogether . THOU SHALL REALISE ALL POSSIBILITIES "Space Station" by JMX / Double Byl MUSIC ON THE CONQUEST OF SPACE Terence McKenna is a controversial ethnobotanist. He developed a theory of innovation based on the increasing rate of novelty in history, which should culminate into the apocalyptic technological event of the Singularity. The only difference between drugs and computers is that one is too large to swallow. THOU SHALL TRANSPLANT THY SOUL "R´Dam Tec" by JMX MUSIC ON LABORATORIES AND BRAINSCANS Dr. Robert White is a controversial brain surgeon who has pioneered 'full-body' transplants in which primate heads are exchanged. I always come back to the point the great scientist Professor Frankenstein when his "monster moved for the first time without knowing it... he spoke of the absolute distinction between the artificial brain and the human brain. When he said : 'It's alive'... THOU SHALL MORPH THY BODY "Digital D.N.A." by JMX / Double Byl MUSIC ON DNA AND BITS AND BYTES Natasha More is a transhuman artist and cyberfeminist. Transhumanists want to go beyond the human condition, towards a technologically-enhanced Godlike posthuman being. One day I may choose to be luscious and beautiful and sexual, the next day I may choose to be a-sexual and to be totally - a thinker and have nothing interfere with my thinking. Another day I may choose to be viril and masculine. THOU SHALL MOVE BEYOND HUMANITY "Mobility" by JMX MUSIC ON THE SPEED OF MOVEMENTS Gregory Stock is author of 'Meta-Man', a book on how humankind is creating a collective being with enormous powers. Recently, he has been focusing on biotechnology and germline engineering. Once we control our genetic heritage, will we still be human? I think that when future humans look back on this era from several hundred years in the "future, they will not remember this time as one when we squandered the resources of the planet, when we destroyed our planet essentially. They'll look at this as an extra-ordinary moment in time when we developed the basic technologies, the basis for their societies. 1 x 80 ' Digital Betacam - format 16/9 (shooting format) Original English version Produced & Directed by Eric Kint Editor: Obbe Verwer Music: Tom Barman - title track: ’My Trancehuman (stay unfaithful)´, Jean-Marie Aerts, Johan Desmet Funded by The Flemish Film Fund, The European Union Media II Development & Distribution Programmes, Eurimages, The European Union 16/9 programme, Ikon, Canvas, YLE, Itinera Films Coproduced by Epidem (Finland) | |
